Greece: Protesters rally outside US embassy in memory of Charlottesville victim Heather Heyer

Activists rallied in front of the US Embassy in Athens to honor Heather Heyer the antifascist murdered in Charlottesville, US. The protesters chanted slogans against fascism and against racism and against the President Donald Trump.  Greek police blocked the area of the US Embassy with vans so that the protesters could not approach.
Heather died in the age of 32, when a 20 year old white supremacist/neonazi driver slammed into a crowd of counter protesters during a rally in Charlottesville, Pennsylvania.

Hundreds join Immortal Regiment march and V-Day celebrations in Greece

The "Immortal Regiment" march in commemoration of Soviet soldiers who died in combat during World War Two, took place in central Athens on Tuesday evening. Members of the Russian community in Greece along with immigrants from the former USSR countries marched in Syntagma square and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier holding portraits of relatives who took part in World War Two and lost their life fighting against Nazism and Fascism. The celebrations marking the 72nd anniversary of the Victory over Nazi Germany continued with a concert at the Zappeion Megaron Hall of Athens and ended with spectacular fireworks.
It is said that the daughter of Soviet hero, Meliton Kantaria, was among the people who marched to celebrate Russian Victory Day in Athens.

Πορεία μνήμης για τη Μέρα της Αντιφασιστικής Νίκης: Εκατοντάδες Ρώσοι και πολίτες των πρώην σοβιετικών χωρων συγκεντρώθηκαν στην πλατεία Συντάγματος, και πραγματοποίησαν την πορεία της «Αθάνατης Στρατιάς», μία πορεία μνήμης και τιμής, με αφορμή την Μεγάλη Αντιφασιστική Νίκη. Η συγκέντρωση και η πορεία πραγματοποιήθηκε μετά από κάλεσμα της Ομοσπονδίας των συλλόγων μεταναστών από τις χώρες της πρώην ΕΣΣΔ, η οποία τονίζει σε ανακοίνωσή της: «72 χρόνια μετά, το τέρας του φασισμού σηκώνει κεφάλι. Οι νεοναζί σπέρνουν το μίσος και το ρατσισμό και δολοφονούν, από το Ντονμπάς μέχρι το Κερατσίνι. Όμως ο αγώνας της μνήμης ενάντια στη λήθη θα νικήσει, η Μέρα της Νίκης θα γιορταστεί επικαιροποιημένη στους σύγχρονους αγώνες ενάντια στο φασισμό».
Στο κάλεσμά της η Ομοσπονδία ζητούσε εκτός από τη συμμετοχή τους να φέρουν μαζί τους και τη φωτογραφία κάποιου συγγενικού προσώπου ή κάποιου επώνυμου που συμμετείχε στον αντιφασιστικό αγώνα 1940-1945. «Για να τιμήσουμε όσους πάλεψαν με το όπλο ή την προκήρυξη στο χέρι, στις διαδηλώσεις, στις απεργίες, τα σαμποτάζ, στα κρατητήρια ή μπροστά στα εκτελεστικά αποσπάσματα».

Video: Russian expats in Greece join 2017 Immortal Regiment march in Athens

On Sunday evening, that was two days before Victory Day, Russian expats in Greece joined another Immortal Regiment march in Syntagma square.
The mourners were carrying portraits of their relatives who fought in the war and banners of the 'Immortal Regiment'. Multiple flags were also seen in the march, including those of Russia and Greece.
Similar events are being held around the world, with thousands of people across the globe marching in commemoration of their loved ones who fought in World War Two.

Antifa protest against Golden Dawn blocked by police

=Massive antifa protest march in Greece demanding the closure of the Golden Dawn headquarters, due to attack on student.=
A massive antifascist protest march took place in Athens on Saturday. Hundreds of demonstrators demanded the closure of the far right party "Golden Dawn" headquarters. The demonstrators were blocked by police before reaching the area of the far right party offices.

During last week, a 42-year-old member of Golden Dawn has been taken to the prosecutor on charges of aggravated assault after beating a 24-year-old student named Alexis Lazaris.  The suspect, who works in the GD office and has worked in the past in the parliamentary office of GD leader Nikos Michaloliakos, was identified by eye-witnesses.
The student  was heavily beaten and seriously injured just hours after unknown assailants attacked a branch of the party in Athens last week. Media speak of retaliation attack.

The parents of the student Alexis Lazaris took part at the demonstration today.

Demonstrations in Greece on anniversary of student killing by police

The massive demonstrations in Athens to mark the eighth anniversary of the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos by police, turned violent on Tuesday night.
The annual march to commemorate the incident has drawn thousands of anti-establishment and anti-austerity protesters.
About 3,000 police officers were deployed to monitor the demonstrations.
Exarcheia, the district where the teen boy was murdered, was turned again into a battlefield.
Riot Police run through flames caused by Molotov cocktails, firecrackers and also butane canister bombs.
Around 30 people were detained or arrested.
Grigoropoulos was 15-years-old when he was killed in 2008 by two police officers. His death resulted in large protests throughout Greece, and solidarity demonstrations around the world.

Η «Μάμα Tόνι» όταν μαθαίνει, στα 82 της χρόνια, ότι οι φασίστες περνούν και πάλι από την πόλη της, αυτή τη φορά ως εκλεγμένοι εκπρόσωποι για να εκφωνήσουν τους λόγους τους στην πλατεία, – μίας πόλης που θρήνησε πολυάριθμα θύματα στα χέρια των φασιστών- αγριεύει, σηκώνεται από την πολυθρόνα της, αρπάζει τη μαγκούρα της και ορμάει μονάχη να τους διώξει. Ο μονόλογος αυτός, σχεδόν άγνωστος, ανήκει στην περίοδο των αντιφασιστικών μονολόγων των Φο/Ράμε, βασισμένων σε μαρτυρίες και υπαρκτά πρόσωπα από την Ιταλική Αντίσταση.
Με τον χαρακτηριστικό τρόπο των Ράμε και Φο εκείνης της περιόδου, η αφήγηση στη «Μάμα Τόνι» κινείται μέσα από απανωτές εναλλαγές που αποτελούν πρόκληση για τον ηθοποιό: από το γκροτέσκο, τον αυτοσαρκασμό, τη σάτιρα, έως την ψύχραιμη κατάθεση, τη συγκινησιακή φόρτιση και την τραγικότητα. Στην προσωπική μαρτυρία της «Mama Tony» μνημονεύονται οι αγώνες, οι ελπίδες αλλά και οι νεκροί των ανταρτών, νεκροί του τότε και του τώρα που δεν μας επιτρέπουν να μένουμε άπραγοι μπροστά την εξάπλωση του φασισμού…

Αθήνα: κινητοποιήσεις τη μέρα κατά του ρατσισμού

Απουσία των μεγάλων ΜΜΕ πραγματοποιήθηκαν στην Αθήνα οι κινητοποιήσεις για την παγκόσμια μέρα κατά του ρατσισμού, των φυλετικών διακρίσεων, της ξενοφοβίας και της μισαλλοδοξίας. Αντιρατσιστικές και μεταναστευτικές οργανώσεις, πρωτοβουλίες και φορείς διοργάνωσαν συλλαλητήριο αλλά και καλλιτεχνικές εκδηλώσεις στην πλατεία Κλαυθμώνος, το μεσημέρι του Σαββάτου, αλλά και στην Ομόνοια.
Το νεοναζιστικό κόμμα Χρυσή Αυγή προκάλεσε διοργανώνοντας δική του συγκέντρωση με ρατσιστικό κάλεσμα, ανήμερα της μέρας κατά του ρατσισμού. Από αντιφασίστες διοργανώθηκε πορεία το απόγευμα με κατεύθυνση το χώρο συγκέντρωσης της Χρυσής Αυγής. Η πορεία των αντιφασιστών, ανακόπηκε από την αστυνομία που παρέταξε στην πορεία τους κλούβες και ΜΑΤ.
Και ενώ τα ΜΜΕ έλαμψαν δια της απουσίας τους από τις εκδηλώσεις των μεταναστών για την μέρα, το δημόσιο κανάλι ΝΕΡΙΤ έλαμψε δια της παρουσίας του στη ρατσιστική συγκέντρωση της Χρυσής Αυγής, την οποία και πρόβαλε σε απευθείας μετάδοση από το webTV.
Τα συνθήματα που κυριάρχησαν στις πορείες ήταν να δοθεί η δυνατότητα απόκτησης ελληνικής ιθαγένειας στα παιδιά των μεταναστών που έχουν γεννηθεί στην Ελλάδα, αλλά και επίσης δυνατά ακούστηκε η φωνή εκατοντάδων διαδηλωτών για να τους δοθούν χαρτιά ώστε να αποκτήσουν πρόσβαση σε νόμιμη εργασία.
Στην πλατεία Κλαυθμώνος Έλληνες και μετανάστες χόρεψαν και διασκέδασαν μαζί, στα πλαίσια καλλιτεχνικών δρώμενων.

Several demonstrations were held in Athens for the world day against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and intolerance (International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination). Antiracist and immigrant unions organized two rallies in the Klathmonos and Omonia squares at noon.
The neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party provoked by holding a rally with a racist call, on the day against racism.
Antifascists organized a third rally in the evening and marched towards the area of the Golden Dawn's rally. The protest march of the antifascists was blocked by heavy police presence.
The slogans that dominated the rallies were for the opportunity to acquire the Greek citizenship to the children of immigrants born in Greece, while hundreds of workers raised their voices requesting papers in order to gain access to legal work.

Athens celebrates global day against fascism and racism

Athens, Greece, 22 March 2014.
Thousands of younger and older people, students, workers, artists, LGTBQ movement members, immigrants with or without papers, laid-off employees of the former Greek public broadcaster (ERT) and trade union members, marched in Athens to celebrate the Global Day Against Fascism and Racism.
At the forefront of the demonstration marched the unpaid laborers from the strawberry fields of Manolada who received gunshots when they claimed their wages.
At the front line also marched the old parents of the 26 year old Pakistani, Shehzad Luqman was stabbed to death in a racially motivated murder.
The rally began shortly before 4 pm on route from Omonia to Syntagma Square, where a concert was held with the support of famous artists.

Immigrants cannot be the scapegoats for the failures of the governments that are spreading poverty, unemployment and desperation with austerity measures.

22 of March is just the beginning of an international movement to stop neo-nazism and end racism. United we can win!

Χιλιάδες Αθηναίοι, νέοι και μεγαλύτεροι σε ηλικία, φοιτητές, εργαζόμενοι, καλλιτέχνες, μέλη ΛΟΑΤ κοινοτήτων, μετανάστες με ή χωρίς χαρτιά, καθώς και απολυμένοι εργαζόμενοι της ΕΡΤ και μέλη εργατικών σωματείων, συμμετείχαν στο μεγάλο συλλαλητήριο, για την Παγκόσμια Ημέρα κατά του φασισμού και του ρατσισμού, που ξεκίνησε από τα Προπύλαια και την Ομόνοια και ολοκληρώθηκε στο Σύνταγμα με μεγάλη συναυλία. Στην πρώτη γραμμή του συλλαλητηρίου βρέθηκαν οι απλήρωτοι μετανάστες από τα ματωμένα φραουλοχώραφα της Μανωλάδας. Ανάλογες κινητοποιήσεις πραγματοποιήθηκαν επίσης σε Παρίσι, Λονδίνο, Γλασκώβη και διάφορες πόλεις της Ευρώπης καθώς και στις ΗΠΑ.

The murder of the anti-fascist rapper and activist Pavlos Fyssas also known as Killah-P, has sparked protests and riots in Greece and it has also initiated a series of arrests of members of Golden Dawn.

Thousands of Greeks joined the antifascist protest on Wednesday evening in Athens, one week after the fatal stabbing of the anti-racism rapper Pavlos Fyssas by a supporter of the far-right Golden Dawn party. Clashes with Police broke out during the demonstration when a group of antifa protesters marched towards the headquarters of extreme-right Golden Dawn in Mesogion avenue. The theater play was directed by Vangelis Theodoropoulos and is a production of the "Theater Of Neos Kosmos", and was a good cause to fill the square with children and parents in an effort for the playground to be unlocked again.
The hundreds of spectators applause loudly during and at the end of the successful performance.
