Greece: Welcome rally for the reception of refugee elementary students

Parents, students and local authorities warmly welcomed 27 refugee children at the 15th Public Elementary School of Nikaia, Athens suburb in Greece .
The children went to the school as part of the new Host Structures for the Refugee Education school program, under the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs.

Stranded refugees in Athens protest against border lockdown

Athens Greece, 28 February 2016.

Hundreds of stranded refugees and migrants mainly from Afghanistan sleep rough in Athens central Victoria Square, as the refugee camps are already overfilled.
Greek Police does not allow them to travel due to the border with FYROM-Macedonia lockdown.
Refugees with their kids hold a protest shouting “Please open the borders” .
NGO "Greek Forum of Refugees" reports for this issue: "Hundreds of desperate refugees in Victoria Square in the center of Athens. Most of them families, sick children, unaccompanied children and other vulnerable groups. They have one question: When the borders open?
Traffickers already asking 2500 to 3000 Euro to pass them from the borders. 400 Euro the cost up to Eidomeni (border with FYROM/Macedonia).
This is the very first outcome of Closing Border policy."

Εκατοντάδες πρόσφυγες και μετανάστες κυρίως από το Αφγανιστάν έκαναν διαμαρτυρία για τα κλειστά σύνορα που τους κρατούν αποκλεισμένους στην Πλατεία Βικτωρίας . Η αστυνομία δεν τους επιτρέπει πια να ταξιδέψουν προς την Ειδομένη, το βόρειο σύνορο της Ελλάδας. Παιδιά και γυναίκες κρατούσαν χαρτιά με συνθήματα γραμμένα με μαρκαδόρο φωνάζοντας "Ανοίξτε τα σύνορα".
Όπως αναφέρει το Ελληνικό Φόρουμ για τους Πρόσφυγες "απελπισμένοι άνθρωποι, οικογένειες, ασυνόδευτα παιδιά και άτομα που ανήκουν σε ευπαθείς ομάδες, έχουν στοιβαχτεί στην Πλατεία Βικτωρίας έχοντας μόνο μια ερώτηση: Πότε θα ανοίξουν τα σύνορα?
Οι τράφικερς και σμάγκλερς ήδη αύξησαν την ταρίφα τους: Ζητούν 2500 με 3000 ευρώ για να τους περάσουν τα σύνορα, ενώ το εισιτήριο μέχρι την Ειδομένη έχει εκτοξευθεί στα 400 ευρώ.
Και αυτό είναι το πρώτο αποτέλεσμα της πολιτικής των κλειστών συνόρων".

Athens: New years eve 2016 for shelterless refugees and migrants

Athens Greece 1 January 2016.
Solidarity groups and volunteers organized a new year's eve 2016 celebration for the refugees and the migrants who have left without shelter in the center of Athens. Amid low temperatures they gathered in Victoria Square where refugees without shelter spend the night out and they distributed warm clothes and food. The New Year 2016 arrived in a climate of solidarity while they shouted the slogan: "Open the borders" .

Ομάδες αλληλέγγυων και εθελοντών διοργάνωσαν γιορτή για τους πρόσφυγες και μετανάστες που έχουν μείνει χωρίς στέγη στο κέντρο της Αθήνας. Εν μέσω χαμηλών θερμοκρασιών συγκεντρώθηκαν στην πλατεία Βικτωρίας και έγινε διανομή ρούχων για το κρύο  και ζεστού φαγητού από την κοινωνική κουζίνα "Ο Άλλος Άνθρωπος". Syrian Exodus: More refugees arrive on Greek mainland seeking asylum

 The refugee ship arrived again in Piraeus port today in the afternoon, carrying just over 2,500 Syrians from the Greek islands, as a wave of migrants fleeing conflict and poverty continues unabated.

Video: Coast Guard officer attacks hungry people who rush to get some food and water during a distribution in the port of Piraeus, Greece. These people are refugees and migrants from Syria and Afghanistan. They have just arrived in Piraeus by a ship that transfers only refugees and migrants from the islands and not normal passengers.
