Λίγες ώρες αργότερα, το κόμμα των ΑΝΕΛ θα αρχίσει να φυλλορροεί με μαζικές παραιτήσεις στελεχών.

Greece: Violent protests against the deal with FYROM to be called "North Macedonia"

Protestors clash with Police outside the Greek parliament in Athens, on 16 June 2018, during the second day of protests against the agreement with FYROM to call itself “Northern Macedonia ". Greek police fired teargas and stun grenades at repelled groups of protesters who tried to enter the parliament complex. At least one protestor was injured. Protesters held the Greek flag, chanted the national anthem, and shouted slogans against the name change deal of Tsipras and Zaef.
Greece's leftist-led government was expected to shrug off a censure vote and protests as it prepares to sign a landmark preliminary deal to end a 27-year name row with Former Yugoslav Macedonia. Athens had long objected to its neighbor being called Macedonia because it has its own northern province of the same name, which in ancient times was the cradle of Alexander the Great's empire, a source of intense pride to modern-day Greeks.

Pontian Greek Genocide Memory Day in Athens

Video: Changing of the Guards ceremony on Pontian Greek Genocide Memory Day

The Changing of the Guards ceremony was held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Athens, with the Evzones of the Presidential Guard dressed in the traditional costume of the Pontic Greeks, during the official event for the Pontian Greek Genocide Memory Day. Annually on May 19 in Greece and around the world, memorial services are held to honor memory of the Pontian Greek Genocide victims. In 1994 the Hellenic Parliament recognized and condemned the genocide of more than 600 thousand Pontian Greeks. Records kept mainly by priests show a minimum 350,000 Pontian Greeks exterminated by Turkish troops and Kurdish militias during 1915-1923. Other sources including foreign missionaries mention 500,000 deaths, most through deportation and forced marches into the Anatolian desert. Greek cities (Pafra, Samsous, Kerasous, and Trapezous) endured massacres and deportations that destroyed their populations. The Pontic Genocide is one of the darkest moments in Greece’s history and has been recognized by Armenia, Greece, Cyprus, Sweden and the Artsakh Republic. Athens Greece 19 May, 2018.
