The annual march to commemorate the incident has drawn thousands of anti-establishment and anti-austerity protesters.
About 3,000 police officers were deployed to monitor the demonstrations.
Exarcheia, the district where the teen boy was murdered, was turned again into a battlefield.
Riot Police run through flames caused by Molotov cocktails, firecrackers and also butane canister bombs.
Around 30 people were detained or arrested.
Grigoropoulos was 15-years-old when he was killed in 2008 by two police officers. His death resulted in large protests throughout Greece, and solidarity demonstrations around the world.
