New Democracy party opens election campaign with a rally in Athens

Greek main opposition New Democracy leader Evangelos Meimarakis opened the election campaign and spoke to a crowd of conservative party supporters on Rigillis Street in central Athens, Sept 1, 2015.
 Former PM Antonis Samaras and his predecessor Costas Karamanlis also attended to the speech, along with a number of party officials from past and present.

Thousands of Greeks rally for 'Yes' vote on bailout referendum

Athens, Greece, 30 June 2015.
 Despite heavy rain, tens of thousands took to the streets of Athens to show their support for the country to remain in the Eurozone and encourage people to vote 'yes' in the upcoming referendum on Sunday - which gives the Greek people the right to choose whether to accept the bailout conditions of the institutions.
The Greek government closed the country’s banks and imposed capital controls on withdrawals until July 6, the day after Greeks are due to vote in the referendum on whether to reject or to accept the bailout terms proposed.

Video: Greece: Queues lengthen at ATMs as banks close for a week

Lines at Greek banks' ATMs grew long early on Monday after the government closed banks for all week with a daily 60-euro limit on cash withdrawals.
Greek citizens are racing to banks to withdraw money.
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras stated that the government had no choice but to close the banks, after the European Central Bank declined to provide further emergency liquidity assistance to Greece’s banking system. The banks are to remain shut until the referendum on Sunday, in which residents will vote on the bailout conditions set by Greece’s lenders.
Greece's capital controls imposed:
- A maximum of €60 (£42; $66) can be withdrawn from an account in one day.
 - Overseas transfers of cash prohibited, except for vital, pre-approved commercial transactions.
