Protesters hang bras and briefs outside the Greek Parliament

Athens, Greece, 28 April, 2014.
Open air market vendors and producers all over the country, went on indefinite strike on Monday in response to a bill by the Ministry of Growth which introduces a number of significant changes to market operation. Open air market sellers say that the new bill will reduce their jobs while being in favor of the supermarkets and the big interests.
Men and women, fruit and vegetables vendors and producers organized a protest rally and marched to the Greek Parliament where they hanged bras and briefs. This symbolic action is based on the Greek phrase "μας πήραν τα σώβρακα" ("they deprived us of our briefs" as one of the protesters is saying on the video) meaning "they stole everything".

Σε συμβολική κίνηση προχώρησαν οι παραγωγοί και οι πωλητές των λαϊκών αγορών, κρεμώντας εσώρουχα έξω από τη Βουλή.
Ξεκίνησαν τη διαμαρτυρία τους από την πλατεία Κάνιγγος και έκαναν πορεία προς τη Βουλή. Έχουν ήδη ξεκινήσει απεργία διαρκείας, αντιδρώντας σε νομοσχέδιο του υπουργείου Ανάπτυξης, το οποίο καταγγέλλουν ότι θα μειώσει τις θέσεις εργασίας τους, ενώ εξυπηρετεί τα σούπερ μάρκετ και τα μεγάλα συμφέροντα.

Rocketwar "Rouketopolemos" marks Easter in Greece

Vrontados, Chios Island, Greece 20 April, 2014.
The annual Rocketwar event known as Rouketopolemos, took place in the village of Vrontados, between the two Orthodox churches Agios Markos and Panagia Erithiani, started during the celebration of the service at midnight before Easter Sunday.
The respective churches of the two rival parishes are built on two hilltops about 400 meters away from each other.
Tens of thousands of home-made rockets are fired across town, with the objective of hitting the bell tower of the church of the other side.
The rockets are wooden sticks loaded with an explosive mixture containing gunpowder and launched from grooved platforms.
They are handmade and all materials used can be found on the island. Rocket making for "Rouketopolemos" is a tradition which counts more that 120 years in Chios. The rocket-makers work as groups of 10 to 15 people, and pass the tradition and their secret recipes from one generation to the other. They describe that they spend countless hours through the year preparing the rockets, and that the whole procedure of making and finally firing the rockets is a unique and insuperable experience.

Πάσχα με φαντασμαγορικό ρουκετοπόλεμο στη Χίο.
Το κορυφαίο έθιμο του Πάσχα γνωστό ως Ρουκετοπόλεμος ξεκίνησε και φέτος το βράδυ του Μεγάλου Σαββάτου και ολοκληρώθηκε τις πρώτες πρωινές ώρες του Πάσχα με εξαιρετική επιτυχία. Χιλιάδες ρουκέτες ρίχτηκαν από την μία ενορία στην άλλη με στόχο τον τρούλο του Αγίου Μάρκου από την μια, και το ρολόι στο καμπαναριό της Παναγιάς Ερειθιανής από την άλλη, προσφέροντας ένα μοναδικό θέαμα.
Οι ρουκέτες είναι φτιαγμένες από χαρτί, νίτρο, κάρβουνο και θειάφι, και το ξύλο που χρησιμεύει ως "τιμόνι", υλικά που υπάρχουν στο νησί και οι παρέες των ρουκετατζήδων που τις φτιάχνουν διατηρούν μια παράδοση για περισσότερο από 120 χρόνια, με μυστικά που περνά η μια γενιά στην άλλη. Όπως περιγράφουν, οι ρουκέτες είναι δικές τους, όλα τα έξοδα για την κατασκευή τους είναι δικά τους. Αμέτρητες ώρες περνούν οι παρέες ("συνεργεία" όπως λέγονται χαρακτηριστικά) μέσα στη χρονιά "στοκώνοντας" ρουκέτες για την επομένη ενώ περιγράφουν την εμπειρία και την όλη διαδικασία ως μοναδική και ανυπέρβλητη.

Life in nylon residences of Manolada one year after the shootings

 A year after the bloody attacks of the farm supervisors, who shot at 33 Bangladeshi farm workers in Manolada, when they protested because they had not been paid for seven months, nothing is better in the nylon residences of laborers.
Furthermore things have developed worse for them, since they continue to be, not only unpaid over a year, but also hungry and without work . "I do not have food , I do not have electricity , I do not have clean water, no bathroom, they do not pay me , I do not have papers and the police arrest me all the time " they are heard saying while living at crowded sheds in awful conditions.
On 14 and 15 March 2014 , about 100 laborers from Bangladesh protested in Manolada their living conditions, while police was present. They wrote on a banner they held : « April 17th , black day for the workers in the strawberry fields of Manolada ." So then , on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 , around 6 pm, in Manolada , 200 Bangladeshi laborers who work in a Greek strawberry farm, were shot by three representatives of employers when they protested because they had not been paid for seven months. Eight of them were seriously injured.
Even now a year later, they say they are still unpaid.
Although the jobs were publicly announced last year after the shooting , no Greek laborers were interested to work in strawberry farms.

Ένα χρόνο μετά τα αιματηρά επεισόδια με τους πυροβολισμούς στις καλλιέργειες φράουλας της Μανωλάδας δεν έχει καλυτερεύσει η ζωή της νάιλον παραγκούπολης των εργατών γης.
Επιπλέον τα πράγματα είναι χειρότερα γι΄ αυτούς, αφού εξακολουθούν να είναι όχι μόνο απλήρωτοι πάνω από χρόνο αλλά και χωρίς εργασία και πεινασμένοι . «Δεν έχω φαγητό, δεν έχω ρεύμα, δεν έχω νερό, δεν έχω μπάνιο, δεν με πληρώνουν, δεν έχω χαρτιά και η αστυνομία με συλλαμβάνει» λένε μέσα από τις παράγκες τους, όπου νέοι άνθρωποι με όρεξη για δουλειά ζουν κάτω από άθλιες συνθήκες.
Στις 14 και 15 Μάρτη 2014, περίπου 100 εργάτες γης από το Μπαγκλαντές διαμαρτυρήθηκαν για τις συνθήκες που ζουν ενώ στο πανό έγραψαν: «17th April Black Day for Manolada Strawberry Workers» «17η Απριλίου, μαύρη μέρα για τους εργάτες στα φραουλοχώραφα της Μανωλάδας». Τότε λοιπόν, την Τετάρτη 17 Απριλίου 2013, γύρω στις 6 μμ , στην Μανωλάδα , 200 Μπαγκλαντεσιανοί εργάτες γης, οι οποίοι εργάζονται σε γεωργική επιχείρηση Έλληνα, δέχθηκαν πυροβολισμούς από τρεις εκπροσώπους του εργοδότη (επιστάτες) όταν ζήτησαν τα δεδουλευμένα επτά μηνών. Ακόμα σήμερα ένα χρόνο μετά, εξακολουθούν να είναι απλήρωτοι. Ας μην ξεχνάμε ότι για τις θέσεις εργασίας που είχαν δημόσια προκηρυχτεί πέρυσι μετά τους πυροβολισμούς, ουσιαστικά κανένας εργάτης ελληνικής καταγωγής δεν είχε ενδιαφερθεί για να στελεχώσει την ντόπια παραγωγή της φράουλας.

Car Bomb Explodes Outside Bank of Greece ahead of Merkel visit

Athens, Greece, 10 April, 2014.
A car bomb exploded outside the Bank of Greece building in the heart of Athens at dawn, causing considerable damage but no injuries, and left left city center in lock-down.
The attack hit a largely commercial zone with a large shopping mall and banks, a few blocks from the Greek parliament.
Forensic experts began combing through the blast site, while office workers in the nearby buildings were unable to get to their offices and gathered in nearby cafes.
The explosion came hours before Greece returns to the international bond markets for the first time in four years, since the debt crisis in 2010, and a day before German Chancellor Angela Merkel's visit to the Greek capital.

Έκρηξη παγιδευμένου αυτοκινήτου έξω από την Τράπεζα της Ελλάδας.
Ισχυρή έκρηξη παγιδευμένου αυτοκινήτου έξω από την Τράπεζα της Ελλάδας, στη συμβολή των οδών Αμερικής και Σταδίου, συγκλόνισε λίγο πριν τις 6 το πρωί το κέντρο, λίγες ώρες πριν την έξοδο της χώρας στις αγορές, για πρώτη φορά μετά από τέσσερα χρόνια, και μια ημέρα πριν την επίσκεψη της Καγκελαρίου Μέρκελ.
Μεγάλες οι υλικές ζημιές σε παρακείμενα κτίρια και καταστήματα, αλλά ευτυχώς δεν υπήρξαν θύματα.
