Thousands Attend Twelfth Annual Gay Pride Parade in Athens Greece

The center of Athens was painted in the colors of the rainbow on Saturday afternoon, while thousands attended the eleventh annual gay pride parade, which was organized by LGBTQI activists.
The mission of Athens Pride is to fight discrimination against gays, lesbians, bisexual, trans, queer and intersex  people and maximize how "visible" are in society, while promoting their rights.
It is a  non-profit, all-volunteer event that also provides programs to raise youth awareness and support groups via their volunteer services.
The Mayor of Athens, Giorgos Kaminis while declaring the start of the Athens Pride 2016, pledged that next year he will give Syntagma Square for the event.
