Hundreds of members of orthodox Christian groups, gathered in Pedio Areos area in central Athens on Sunday afternoon and from there they marched to the Parliament, to protest the new electronic ID cards.
Among the people who had gathered early in the evening was Christos Pappas, MP of the far right party "Golden Dawn" who talked a long time with some of the people. This cooperation is not unusual at all: Last week, protests by members of far-right party Golden Dawn and religious groups against the staging of Terrence McNally’s “Corpus Christi” led to the cancellation of the play’s premiere at the Hytirio Theater, in central Athens.
The gathered crowd chanted religious hymns, some burned incense and all together chanted slogans against the new identity while the keynote speakers spoke against cadastre.
They say that the new IDs and the cadastre is a tool of the Antichrist.
But the land register that lingers to finish in Greece, is a key tool against tax evasion.
It is striking that these poor fanatics Orthodox Christians with their attitude against cadastre they are serving the interests of some very rich people who evade taxes.
The talks ended when they gave everyone a new appointment for next Thursday, where they will gather and attempt to cancel the play at the Hytirio Theater.
