Thousands march in Athens to mark 1973 student revolt

As many as 16,000 people march to the US embassy in homage to the victims of Athens Polytechnic uprising, a bloody revolt staged by students against Greece's military junta in 1973.
The protesters held banners and shouted anti-American slogans, decrying US support for Greek junta, while a line of police vans ranged in front of the embassy building.
Street battles broke out outside Athens Polytechnic University between anarchists and Greek police after the demonstration.
The rioters  burned a Greek flag and attacked police with petrol bombs, flares and stones while Riot police responded with tear gas and stun grenades. Thirteen people  were arrested and five were detained.
